A: No, IBAS is a professional association that represents general insurance brokers across Saskatchewan.
Q: How do I obtain an insurance licence?
A: To obtain a licence, you must be sponsored by an insurance company. This means, you must be working in a brokerage in order to be sponsored.
You can complete the education necessary to obtain this licence without working in the industry, however in order to obtain the actual licence, you must be working under a brokerage.
Q: What are the educational requirements IBAS offers for each level of licensing?
A: Level 1 licence – Fundamentals of Insurance OR CAIB 1 plus the Auto Part 1 Basic and Auto Part 2 Extended courses and GICS Bylaws exam.
Level 2 licence – CAIB 2 & CAIB 3
Level 3 licence – CAIB 4
Q: After passing the educational requirements for a level 1 licence how long do I have to find employment?
A: You have 1 year after passing your CAIB 1 or Fundamentals of Insurance plus the Auto Part 1 and Auto Part 2 and General Bylaws exams to find employment to become licensed.

A: You will have to apply for a licence through the Insurance Council of Saskatchewan – if you need help with this you can contact them at 306-347-0862.

A: Any exam postponement that requires a fee cost $50.00 plus 5% GST (paper, online, immersion course).

A: All paper exams take up to 3 weeks to receive your mark.

Q: Do textbooks automatically come with my online exam registration?
A: Textbooks do not automatically come with the online exam registration; you must order the textbook using the Textbook Order Form.
Q: Can you write online exams at the IBAS office?
A: Yes, you can register and select IBAS as the proctor. Please remember to call and schedule an appointment as well.
Q: When can you write online exams?
A: You can write online exams at any date and time you choose in your office/exam space.
However, IBAS does encourage people to write while we are open (8:30AM – 4PM) in case there are problems you can contact us.

A: Yes, your proctor is required to time you the same as a paper exam.

A: Anyone with a level 3 license.

Q: Can you navigate between questions for the online CAIB exams?
A: Yes you can. On the left hand side of the exam there is a navigation pane – please note it is recommended you “Submit & Remain” after each question to save your work.
Only “Submit & Proceed” once you have completed the exam and are happy with your answers.

A: CAIB online up to 7 days – Fundamentals, Auto Insurance and Bylaws are received instantly once you enter your codes in again at the end of the exam.

A: You have 3 business days before the exam date to notify IBAS that you need to postpone your exam without paying a fee.
