Exciting change to IBAS’s E&O insurance program

IBAS is pleased to announce an exciting change to its errors and omissions (E&O) member insurance program. Effective November 1, IBAS will be joining forces with the Insurance Brokers Association of Alberta to launch Sage Advisor Resources in Saskatchewan. This new partnership will replace IBAS’s for-profit entity, IBCO Services Ltd., and will assume the management of existing IBCO clients.
Security Safeguard Breach Guide

On November 1, 2018, new federal regulations will come into force that will require all organizations, including insurance brokers, to report breaches of security safeguards that pose a real risk of significant harm to individuals to the Privacy Commissioner and any individuals affected.

IBAS updates its corporate branding

In conjunction with the launch of the new national BIPPER logo on September 4, IBAS has updated its own corporate branding collateral. This includes the launch of a new IBAS logo and the removal of the apostrophe from our name (becoming the last insurance brokers association in Canada to do so). A new website will also be coming in 2019.
IBAC unveils new national BIPPER symbol

On September 4, the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC) introduced its new Broker Identity Program (BIP) branding — along with the new BIPPER logo — and national advertising campaign. The BIPPER was created in 1988 as part of a national effort to promote the role of the insurance broker as a qualified professional who works for the insurance consumer, providing unbiased advice, choice, and customer service.
2018 IBAS Broker Issues Survey

Part of that process is better understanding the challenges you are facing and how the association can add value, which is why we have launched the 2018 IBAS Broker Issues Survey. If you are a licensed broker or brokerage principal in the Province of Saskatchewan, please take 15-20 minutes to complete the questionnaire no later than Friday, September 28.
YBN Executive Committee election

Voting is now open for election to the Saskatchewan Young Brokers Network (YBN) Executive Committee. This year, there are seven candidates who have allowed their names to stand for up to three vacant positions — each for a term of two years. If you are a YBN member in good standing, you are eligible to vote for up to three of these candidates. The deadline for voting is 5 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018.
New BIPPER logo coming this fall

The Broker Identity Program (BIP) — with its well-known BIPPER logo — is central to advancing recognition for the insurance broker profession and enhancing the reputation of brokers across Saskatchewan and beyond. After more than 25 years, the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC) board of directors voted at its May meeting to modernize this important symbol for today’s changing landscape.
IBAS, YBN representatives in Ottawa for IBAC’s annual Parliament Hill Day

In total, the national delegation met with more than 120 members of parliament, senators, and senior bureaucrats.

SGI joins TIC real-time data integration project

SGI CANADA recently announced it has joined the Toronto Insurance Conference’s (TIC) project on real-time data integration between insurers and brokers. This proof-of-concept, announced in January and entitled The D/X Initiative, focuses on communicating claims information for both commercial and personal lines clients. It follows the nationally-endorsed Insurance Brokers’ Association of Canada Data Exchange (D/X) principles, which use established industry data standards and no surplus middleware or data translation layer.
IBAS hosts inaugural Insurance Broker Day at the Legislature

On March 13, the IBAS and Saskatchewan Young Brokers Network (YBN) boards of directors converged on Regina for the first-ever Insurance Broker Day at the Legislature — a full day of advocacy and policy discussions that featured meetings with: Six cabinet ministers, including the deputy premier; the leader of the official opposition; senior representatives from the premier’s office and Ministry of Finance; one caucus policy committee; and, several sitting MLAs.
Reinstated PST exemption on insurance premiums a positive step forward, but additional work remains: IBAS

Earlier this week, Premier Scott Moe announced the Government of Saskatchewan will be reinstating the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) exemption on agricultural (crop, hail, and livestock), life, and health insurance premiums, retroactive to August 1, 2017. While P&C and automotive coverages will still be subject to the PST, Monday’s declaration is an important step in the right direction to ensuring consumers, business owners, and farmers can protect themselves — and those they care about — affordably, with the right insurance.
CSIO’s My Proof of Insurance eDelivery solution is now available

CSIO has announced the official launch of its My Proof of Insurance eDelivery solution. The solution enables CSIO members to send consumers digital policy documents, including proof of auto insurance (eSlips), for personal and commercial lines, and is available to members at no additional cost.

IBAS endorses CSIO’s document eDelivery solution
