About the Fire Underwriter Survey in Saskatchewan

August 17, 2023, 12:30 - 1:30 PM

Information contained in the Fire Underwriter Survey (FUS)directly affects the price and availability of residential, commercial, and farm insurance in Saskatchewan. Fire Underwriters Survey is a national organization administered by OPTA Information Intelligence, formerly CGI Insurance Business Services, formerly the Insurers' Advisory Organization and Canadian Underwriters Association. FUS provides data on public fire protection for fire insurance statistical work and underwriting purposes of subscribing insurance companies. Subscribers of the Fire Underwriters Survey represent approximately 85 per cent of the private sector property and casualty insurers in Canada, including the vast majority of Saskatchewan.

Where does FUS get fire protection information from? You! Municipalities are responsible for providing information to FUS to ensure accurate underwriting information is available to Saskatchewan insurers to price insurance products in Saskatchewan.

The Insurance Brokers Association of Saskatchewan (IBAS) is working together with FUS to support Saskatchewan municipal governments in updating FUS data. The online portal provided by FUS is simple and easy to use, and inputting data from scratch will likely take most municipal governments two hours or less. Then regular updates to that data – say every two years – will likely take 30 minutes or less for most municipal governments.

Session Dates

Over the summer, IBAS will be hosting webinars to introduce FUS to Saskatchewan’s municipal governments and to help walk you through the on-line portal and how to enter your data. These following webinars will be held via Zoom from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on:

  • Thursday, August 17
