Canadian Professional Insurance Broker Program

The property and casualty (P&C) insurance industry is constantly changing, with new demands and challenges arising regularly. Brokers must meet these demands and challenges with confidence that can only be gained from experience and knowledge.

The Canadian Professional Insurance Broker (CPIB) program is a senior-level curriculum and corresponding designation developed by the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC) and its provincial member associations. CPIB is positioned at a university-level of study and is unique in that it allows students to focus on their studies and interests in one of three professional disciplines: personal lines, commercial lines, or brokerage management.

Prerequisites

A CAIB or CIP designation is required before the CPIB designation may be used. In addition, students must be licensed and employed by a P&C insurance brokerage that is a member of IBAS in good standing.

Elective Courses

Elective courses may be taken through a recognized post-secondary institution of the student’s choosing (classroom study or distance learning).

  • If you have already completed some post-secondary education, please contact IBAS to explore which — if any — courses may be transferred for credit.

  • If you are considering enrollment in additional post-secondary courses, we strongly encourage you contact IBAS first to confirm whether the courses are eligible for transfer.

IBAS requires a copy of the student’s transcript from the post-secondary institution once all mandatory, insurance-specific courses, are completed. The course(s) to be transferred should be underlined or highlighted and easily distinguished from the other credits listed.
