Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) and the Insurance Brokers Association of Saskatchewan (IBAS) are pleased to announce agreement on a new IBAS/SGI Auto Fund Strategic Accord, effective May 1, 2022, through December 31, 2029. The previous accord was set to expire on November 1, 2021, but was extended by six months to allow for further consultation.

The accord sets out high-level commitments between SGI and IBAS regarding the delivery of motor licence issuing products and services in the province. The principles outlined in the accord guide and support — yet do not supersede — the Issuer’s Agreement, Terms and Conditions of an Issuing Appointment, the Issuer’s Website Contract, and Internet Issuing Terms and Conditions.

“Saskatchewan residents enjoy access to the most stable, affordable, and best serviced auto insurance system in Canada,” says IBAS President & CEO Derek Lothian. “Insurance brokers are proud to be a foundational partner in that system, so we are especially pleased this accord reaffirms the role of issuers as the main customer conduit for issuing transactions and value-added advice.”

The accord addresses the responsibilities of each party in continuing to work together to enhance the customer experience. It also establishes a governance framework to ensure joint commitments are executed and identifies priorities SGI and IBAS will advance discussions on in the coming months.

“We believe this renewed accord lays the groundwork for SGI, IBAS, brokers, and all issuers to deepen collaboration to ensure issuing customers receive superior and consistent service and protection, and the right balance of service and affordability,” adds Penny McCune, executive vice president and COO, SGI Auto Fund. “The auto insurance and issuing landscapes are evolving; however, the relationship between SGI, IBAS, and issuers remains as important as ever in meeting the needs of our shared customers.”
