Accelerator Stream

Launched in November 2025, the Accelerator Stream of the IBAS Indigenous Broker Development Program ("IBDP") is designed to provide targeted, short-term funding to Indigenous-owned insurance brokerages for the rapid upskilling of existing, licensed P&C insurance brokers with First Nations, Métis, or Inuit heritage.

Approved brokerages can access up to $2,500 per employee (to maximum of $25,000 per brokerage) over and above support received through regular IBDP intakes to cover costs for Indigenous employees completing modules within the Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker ("CAIB") training program, as well as IBAS Auto 1 and Auto 2 e-courses. For participating Indigenous employees, this will lead to a higher level of licence eligibility and promote career advancement.

Reimbursable expenses accepted under the Accelerator Stream include:

  • CAIB textbook, exam, and course fees (Immersion and e-course);
  • Up to 56 hours’ wages (48 hours for CAIB 1 – 3 and 56 hours for CAIB 4) incurred by Indigenous employees completing either a CAIB Immersion module or a CAIB e-course; and
  • Eight (8) hours' wages per course incurred by Indigenous employees completing the IBAS Auto 1 and/or IBAS Auto 2 e-course.

Brokerages must be at least 50% Indigenous-owned, and all related funded activities must be completed by December 31, 2026.

Upon project completion, brokerages will be required to submit the following information:

  • A list of eligible participating employees;
  • Their level of licence prior to Accelerator Stream activities;
  • Their level of licence after Accelerator Stream activities;
  • Documentation to support all activities eligible for Accelerator Stream funding;
  • Documentation to support paid wages; and
  • Any other information and/or supporting documentation that is deemed relevant by IBAS.

Reimbursement will be processed within 30 days of receiving all required documentation.
