Accelerator Stream
Launched in November 2025, the Accelerator Stream of the IBAS Indigenous Broker Development Program ("IBDP") is designed to provide targeted, short-term funding to Indigenous-owned insurance brokerages in the rapid upskilling of existing, licensed P&C insurance brokers with First Nations, Métis, or Inuit heritage.
Approved brokerages can access up to $2,500 per employee (to maximum of $25,000 per brokerage) over and above support received through regular IBDP intakes to cover costs for Indigenous employees completing modules within the Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker ("CAIB") training program. For participating Indigenous employees, this will lead to a higher level of licence eligibility and promote career advancement.
Reimbursable expenses accepted under the Accelerator Stream include CAIB textbook, exam, and course fees, as well as up to 56 hours’ wages (48 hours for CAIB 1 – 3 and 56 hours for CAIB 4) incurred by Indigenous employees completing a CAIB Immersion module. Brokerages must be at least 50% Indigenous-owned and all related funded activities must be completed by December 31, 2026.
Application Information
To consider an application of the Accelerator Stream, brokerages will be required to submit the following information:
- A list of eligible participating employees;
- Their currently held level of licence;
- A list of all CAIB modules they have completed to date (with successful completion of the exam);
- The CAIB module(s) they intend to complete under the Accelerator Stream; and
- Their current salaries and/or wage levels.
Once the funded CAIB module is complete, the approved brokerage must submit supporting documentation for the reimbursement to be processed.
For more information, or to submit an application under the Accelerator Stream, please contact IBAS Manager of Broker Development, Jessica Eberle, at ibdp@ibas.ca.
