2021 Saskatchewan Summit of Young Insurance Professionals

The Saskatchewan Summit of Young Insurance Professionals is back in 2021 as a 100% free, fully digital event! This one-day forum — presented in partnership with SGI CANADA — brings together brokers, carrier representatives, adjusters, and other industry stakeholders for an interactive day of learning and discussion. IBAS member brokers are eligible to receive four (4) continuing education (CE) credit hours.

Please note that login information will be e-mail to registered participants the day prior to the event. Each licensee looking to obtain CE credit hours must be individually registered.

Who should attend?

Any professional employed in Saskatchewan's insurance industry is welcome to take part, regardless of age. Certain content, however, may be tailored to individuals who are under the age of 40 and/or are at the emerging stages of their insurance careers.

10 – 11 a.m.: State of the Insurance Industry
Joel Baker, President & CEO, MSA Research

Joel Baker is president and CEO of MSA Research, which is Canada's foremost provider of financial information and analysis of P&C, life, and health insurers. Baker also leads, as CEO, Catastrophe Indices and Quantification Inc. (CatIQ) — acquired by Zurich-based PERILS A.G. in July 2019 — as well as Northwind Professional Institute. 

11 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Climate Adaptation in the P&C Insurance Market
Blair Feltmate, Head, Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation, University of Waterloo

Blair Feltmate is the head of the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation at the University of Waterloo. He is also a member of the Global Risk Institute's Sustainable Finance Advisory Council and chairs the Adaptation Committee at the Canadian Institute for Climate Choices. Prior to his assuming his current role, Blair served as vice president of sustainable development at the Bank of Montreal. Additionally, he sat as chair of the Federal Expert Panel on Climate Adaptation.

Lyndon Block, CEO, Block's Agencies & Mello Insurance (Saskatchewan)
Traci Boland, Partner, Ontario West Insurance Brokers (Ontario)

This session brings together three small-to-mid-sized brokerage leaders from across Canada for an interactive discussion on how to leverage innovation to drive growth. We'll, of course, talk about the role of technology, but we will also expand the conversation to cover unique approaches to sales and marketing, brand positioning, staffing, carrier partnerships, and internal operations.

2 – 3 p.m.: Cutting Through the Noise: Helping Your Brand Stand Out From the Crowd
