Workshop: Introduction to Risk Management for Insurance Brokers

Risk management is one of the most coveted skills an insurance broker can develop. Brokers who are proficient at helping clients not only insure against risk but also mitigate it can often add meaningful customer value through better terms, fewer and less expensive claims, improved efficiency, and greater profitability. That translates into happier clients, higher retention rates, and a greater ability to win business.
To begin to hone those skills, IBAS is hosting a full-day Introduction to Risk Management workshop, tailored specifically for insurance brokers. This in-person session will cover:
- Defining risk management in the context of brokering insurance;
- The relationship between risk managing and the sale of insurance products;
- Client satisfaction and retention through risk management advice;
- Risk and loss exposure identification and mitigation;
- Alternative techniques; and
- How to develop a risk management program for insurance clients.

Who Should Attend
Risk management principles are universal. While they are most applicable in commercial insurance, personal lines is a great space to learn to apply them. Accordingly, this course is ideal for all front-line brokers, producers, as well as managers who are beginning to cultivate this important skill set in a team.
What’s Included

The Instructor
Melanie Needham, FCIP, CIP, is the president of MRD Training & Consulting and has more than 20 years’ senior-level experience in the insurance industry. She is the creator of the IBAS Commercial Broker Boot Camp, is a past instructor in the nationally recognized Certified Risk Management program, and was named the 2018 Insurance Institute of Canada Instructor of the Year.
