The Insurance Brokers Association of Saskatchewan (IBAS) and SGI are reminding drivers that traffic safety is the top priority when you get behind the wheel this holiday season — or any time throughout the year.

This call comes as part of National Safe Driving Week (NSDW), which runs December 1 – 7. NSDW is an annual initiative of the Canada Safety Council, in partnership with the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada as well as its provincial members.

“Your family isn’t built for a crash, and safety is the responsibility of each and every motorist,” says IBAS President & CEO Derek Lothian. “Your actions impact not only you — but other drivers and passengers you share the road with. Those good decisions start by driving distraction-free, without the influence of drugs or alcohol, by obeying the rules of the road, and by ensuring you have the proper insurance to protect you and your loved ones.”

More than 60 fatal collisions have already occurred across the province in 2023. For each of them, there is at least one family whose lives have been changed forever.

“Through education and awareness, SGI is committed to making our roads safer for all drivers,” adds JP Cullen, chief operating officer of the SGI Auto Fund. “National Safe Driving Week offers a good opportunity to reflect on how our good choices and responsible actions as individuals can help make our roads safer for everyone. Over the coming holiday season and throughout the year, we encourage drivers to plan for a safe ride home if they are consuming alcohol or drugs.”
