Fran & Tom (Sonny) Luchenski — owners of Tom Agencies in Lucky Lake, Beechy, and Dinsmore — have been named the recipients of the 2023 IBAS Community Leadership Award. The Luchenskis, who were unaware they’d be receiving the recognition, were celebrated at the 2023 IBAS Chair’s Banquet on October 13 in Saskatoon, with a surprise appearance by their family and staff.

Presented in partnership with Saskatchewan Blue Cross, this award is the association’s highest honour, and distinguishes one outstanding brokerage or broker (or, in this case, brokers) who have gone above and beyond to make a meaningful difference in their respective community. These contributions may be in the form of volunteerism, philanthropy, and/or demonstrated impact on the advancement of the broker profession. Nominations are reviewed by an independent selection committee.

“Fran and Tom embody the very spirit of what it means to be an insurance broker,” says IBAS President & CEO Derek Lothian. “They generously give back to countless causes and organizations. They are model employers, brokers, and small business owners. And they actively work toward building not only a stronger Saskatchewan, but also a stronger broker channel. You won’t find two people more deserving.”

As part of the #BrokersCare initiative, IBAS and Saskatchewan Blue Cross will be making a $6,000 donation on behalf of the Luchenskis, which will be split between the three communities in which the brokerage operates.
