Latest News > IBAS, Red River Mutual donate $5,000 to celebrate Canada’s Agriculture Day
The Insurance Brokers Association of Saskatchewan (IBAS) has teamed up with Red River Mutual to make two, $2,500 donations in celebration of Canada’s Agriculture Day (February 13, 2024).
These contributions, totalling $5,000 and delivered through the #BrokersCare Community Fund, will be evenly split between a pair of organizations leading fantastic work across the province:
- Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC): Based in Saskatoon, AITC Saskatchewan is a registered not-for-profit that connects kids and agriculture through innovative, experiential, and curriculum-based programs and resources. Each year, it inspires more than 70,000 youth to gain a deeper understanding and develop a stronger appreciation for the food production system, while also fostering their aspirations to become more involved in the industry.
- Do More Agriculture Foundation: Do More Ag is a national charity that champions mental health in the agriculture sector. It advances this important mandate through educational workshops, by facilitating intra-industry dialogue, and by linking farmers with the direct support needed to manage stress, improve wellbeing, and navigate times of crisis.
“Agriculture is foundational to the social and economic fabric of Saskatchewan,” explains IBAS President & CEO Derek Lothian. “We’re home to more than 34,000 farms and 40 per cent of Canada’s cultivated farmland — not to mention our position as a global powerhouse in the export of fertilizer, value-added foods, and agricultural implements. Our members are proud to play a role in protecting and advancing this critical sector.”
With these contributions, IBAS’s #BrokersCare program has raised and distributed $211,870.75 to not-for-profit organizations and grassroots projects since first launching in 2021.
“As a mutual insurer owned by its policyholders, our purpose is to be a positive force in the community and the lives of our customers,” adds Red River Mutual President & CEO Brenda Gibson. “We’re thrilled to be able to partner with IBAS to recognize Canada’s Ag Day and give back to the farming community that has been a part of our company’s story for close to 150 years.”
