Over the last couple of weeks, our team has watched with profound sadness as wildfires across the province have displaced members, their neighbours, and entire communities. It is a trying time for many families in Saskatchewan; and as the situation evolves by the hour, our hearts go out to those impacted.

IBAS also recognizes that its members are on the front lines of the disaster response, providing critical advice and claims assistance to policyholders — hundreds of whom have lost homes, businesses, and their sense of security. To our member brokers: We see you, and we thank you. You are truly making a difference.

IBAS is continuing to work closely alongside its partners to deliver support where we're able. To date, this has included:

  • Partnering with the Canadian Red Cross and the Saskatchewan Roughriders Foundation to host roughly 1,000 evacuees at the Riders home opener;
  • Teaming up with Saskatoon Fire & Flood to donate $10 from each 2025 Leaders Summit registration in June to the Saskatchewan Wildfire Appeal of the Canadian Red Cross;
  • Connecting evacuees (especially children and youth) with activities to support their mental health and wellbeing — such as outings to baseball games, movie theatres, play centres, parks, and museums; and
  • Triaging with regulators, carriers, and other stakeholders to navigate shifting operational and business challenges as they arise.

IBAS would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC) and IBAC CEO Peter Braid for making additional resources available that have significantly expanded our reach.

If your brokerage has identified a specific gap in support, or if your brokerage requires assistance itself, please send me a note directly at derek.lothian@ibas.ca. While we have no illusions our capacity is limited, IBAS will do everything it can to support its members and their communities. It is in moments like these we can truly show that #BrokersCare.
