Four separate licensing exams will become free to employees of IBAS member brokerages, effective June 1.

As part of a three-year pilot program launched in partnership with SGI, fees will be waived for Restricted Auto Part I (Basic), Restricted Auto Part II (Extension), General Bylaws, and Auto Bylaws exams written through IBAS. These exams comprise the core education requirements to qualify for a Restricted Auto Licence and are collectively valued at $575 plus tax.

“The purpose of this initiative is to reduce barriers to licensing,” explains IBAS President & CEO Derek Lothian. “Attracting and retaining a qualified workforce is one of the top challenges facing Saskatchewan brokerages. The need to licence staff has never been greater; and, by removing cost from that system, we are aiming to eliminate some of the business risk involved with onboarding in a highly regulated industry.”

Negotiated through the ongoing IBAS – SGI motor licence issuing review process, IBAS also hopes this move will decrease the number of unlicensed issuing staff within member brokerages.

Specifics around free exam registration, which is ‘phase one’ in the rollout of a new IBAS learning management system, will be announced in May.

“This collaboration demonstrates the shared commitment between IBAS and SGI to be innovative in our support of Saskatchewan brokers,” says Lothian. “We are thrilled to be able to pass along this direct value to our members as we work towards our mission of nurturing the strongest P&C insurance brokerages in Canada.”
