Four separate licensing exams are now free to employees of IBAS member brokerages.

As part of a three-year pilot program launched in partnership with SGI, fees are waived for IBAS Auto Part I (Basic), IBAS Auto Part II (Extension), General Bylaws, and Auto Bylaws exams written through IBAS. These exams comprise the core education requirements to qualify for a Restricted Auto Licence and can save brokerages up to $650 per licensee.

“The purpose of this initiative is to reduce barriers to licensing,” explains IBAS President & CEO Derek Lothian. “Attracting and retaining a qualified workforce is one of the top challenges facing Saskatchewan brokerages. The need to licence staff has never been greater; and, by removing cost from that system, we are aiming to eliminate some of the business risk involved with onboarding in a highly regulated industry.”

This exciting new member benefit was negotiated through the ongoing IBAS-SGI motor licence issuing review process. The program launched on June 1, and — in the first two months alone — has already saved IBAS members $22,250.

“This collaboration demonstrates the shared commitment between IBAS and SGI to be innovative in our support of Saskatchewan brokers,” says Lothian. “We are thrilled to be able to pass along this direct value to our members as we work towards our mission of nurturing the strongest P&C insurance brokerages in Canada.”
